The Kinsmen Club of the Miramichi are members of Kin Canada, Canada’s largest
all-Canadian service organization. There are four levels of governance in Kin; Club, Zone, District and
National. The club is within the boundaries of Kin Canada Atlantic-District 7 and is in Zone A (New Brunswick).
Here is a brief overview of our governance model:
Club:
The executive is elected to a one-year term. The
Kin year runs from July 1 to June 30th.
Club elections are held between April 1 and May 15 of each Kin year, and every
active member is eligible for office after their first year (except for the position of President). Each club sets it own
requirements for size of executive, however you must have a President, Secretary, Treasurer and Risk Manager.
The Miramichi Kinsmen hold their elections at their second Regular meeting in April each year.
The Kinsmen Club of the Miramichi holds their meetings alternating Thursdays at 6:30 pm
in their club room at the Beaverbrook Kin Centre, 100 Newcastle Blvd. These meetings typically run for
2-2.5 hours, and include a home cooked meal and fellowship. The club executive meets on the opposite Thursday
starting at 7:30 pm and is typically one hour in length. All members are encouraged to attend the executive
meetings as they deal with club administration, new projects and smaller business items to free up time at the regular meetings.
For more information or to inquire about joining please contact our Membership Director Tom King or call the Kin Centre at 622-4046.
ZONE:
Generally comprised of one elected Kinsmen and one
elected Kinette Deputy Governors. The Deputy Governors are elected each year at Spring Conference, which
is hosted by a different club in the Zone each year. These people work together to provide information
to both their clubs and the rest of the District on how things are running. In addition, these people chair Spring Zone meetings
and are members of the District Council, representing the interests of the clubs in their Zones. A Deputy Governor is also
required to visit each club within the Zone at least twice during the year. Each Zone has a set of By-Laws,
which are specific to the clubs operating within a particular Zone.
Zone A
consists of 11 clubs and includes all of the Province of New Brunswick. Our Deputy Governor is L.M.
Bob Brannen of the Kinsmen Club of Fredericton.
DISTRICT:
Comprised of one elected District Governor, who acts as the chief administrative officer of the District and assist
in member and project information, chair District Convention, Fall Leadership, and is the chair of the District Council,
which implements District By-Laws. The Governor is responsible for the running of the District's business and appoints
members to assist in running the business of the District. The Governor is required to keep the members
of the District informed and updated on all things Kin, and to work with the Executive Director and National Board to ensure
all matters are addressed effectively and efficiently. Where possible the Governors is expected to travel
throughout the District for special events and celebrations.

Atlantic-District 7 consists of 47 Kinsmen clubs, 25 Kinette clubs and 5 Kin clubs for a total of 77, and includes all parts
of the 4 Atlantic Provinces. Our Governor is Mitch Freeman of the Kinsmen Club of Charlottetown,
